Calcium Ammonium Nitrate

Nitrogen makes up about 78% of the atmosphere, but in that form it is unavailable to almost all crops. Plants obtain Nitrogen mainly from soil reserves, once soil microorganisms break down organic Nitrogen into its absorbable forms — Nitrate (NO3-N) and Ammoniacal (NH4-N). Nitrogen deficiency causes reduced soil fertility, stunted growth and premature aging of the plant, while excess delays ripening and makes plants more prone to disease.

Nitrocan® combines Nitrogen with Calcium, in a fertilizer known as Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN). Calcium is a key structural element for the plant’s cell walls, and when supplied through the soil it improves soil structure and aeration and helps protect against acidification — particularly important in soils already under intensive nitrogen fertilization.
